I'm wondering where all the protest went. Before the war started, there were large protests all over the place. Now there's relative silence. What's happened?
I think that people have become demoralized because of this administration. Where in elections the will of the people doesn't seem to matter, where corrupt people manage to hold positions of power in the face law and justice. It's only a year before the next election and I think people are just saving their energy to see what will happen.
I think this administration has done a good job of terrorizing most of the public. I noticed the other day that I was not willing to speak my true feelings for fear someone might be listening. I have since noticed other people doing the same self editing or admonishing others for speaking thing that *someone* might hear. I hate that my country has gotten to this place.
An unjust, illegal war happened over the loud protests of a significant percentage of the american people, and the majority of the international community. And the war continued against the will of the majority of the US population. At that point, I think people realized that nothign they say or do matters a damn because the system is rigged.
What does it matter how you vote when all the candidates tell the same lies? And what is your vote worth when none of the candidates actually pay attention to the needs or goals of the electorate? What is the right to speech or assembly really worth when no one listens to what you say?
What happened was that people started to see through the fiction which tells us that democracy offers people the right to self-government.
Some are still happening - although they're quieter affairs now for more targeted audiences. I think a lot of people thing the ranks have sorted themselves mostly at this point. But I won't deny that there seem to be less people - but of the drop outs, I think we're split - some of us are just plain old tired - I didn't get to the protest of the usually reasonable representative from Houston who voted for the all spying all the time bill tonight because the meet-the-teacher for my kids ran later than expected and I forgot about it.
But while I haven't given up, I'm still trying to make time to learn to make fire and shoot a gun.
Always in motion is the future - and likewise to those who are making it.
