Yesterday it was a comfortable 50 degrees outside. Today there are three inches (and still falling) of snow outside. Boulder is a weather miracle. The city dealing with that miracle makes me considerably less enthusiastic. They only plow the very main roads and leave everything to turn to ice. The sidewalks are generally never shoveled (unless someone feels nice), so most of the sidewalks are ice as well. Really quite dangerous out.

I've been to all my classes now. The TAship shouldn't be so bad -- mostly recitations will consist of discussion session about interesting and sometimes controversial readings. I just have to stay on top of the readings and try to get people to talk. I may be taking three actual classes this semester, but it may not be three classes worth of work. The hardest will be the class on Empire, Gender/Sexuality, and Masculinity in India, since it has a lot of hard theoretical reading. Feminist Theory will not be so bad -- lots of reading, but just three 5-7 page papers and one presentation. I'm also doing an independent study with my advisor on Neo Paganism, but I'm pretty sure I can handle that. It'll be a lot of work all semester but rather than getting hit with three final papers I'll only have two.

The classes I'm sitting in on are really fun. I don't have to do any of the work, just read along and listen to the lectures.

Ack. Look at the time. Have to go to the lecture for my TAship.

Recitation: 1 Maggie: 0

Just got out of my first recitation. I spent a lot of time getting ready, rehearsing, etc -- it just didn't work out. I botched my plan, skipped some important points, and was faced with a group that *did not* want to discuss the reading. Which is a shame because the reading was a sort-of black humor satire, probably the best reading we'll have all semester. No one wanted to talk - it was like pulling teeth. I understand what i did wrong and I'm going to fix it for the recitation at 4pm. Its still really disappointing because the first recitation is so important for setting the tone of the semester.
