Today is my last day at this job.
This colored my thoughts as I took my final stroll to 7-11 to get my lunch. Most likely, I'd never again walk through this neighborhood -- a bad piece of Brunswick sandwiched between downtown and Douglass.
And more than likely I'd never again browse that particular 7-11. I've always had a love-hate relationship with this particular chain, more on the hate side than the love. I'm from Hoagieland, you see, so my first allegiance has to be to Wawa. 7-11 pales in comparison. This 7-11, though, has been good to me. It provides me with coke flavored slurpees, ramen, and chips. It has a strange collection of magazines for sale (tattoo mags right next to civil war mags). The candy selection is definitely weird, featuring all sorts of reject sugar. And they sell Americone Dream, Colbert's ice cream flavor. What more could I possibly want from lunch at a convenience store? (Well, Wawa sandwiches for one, but ultimately you can't have everything.)
I will miss dodging mourners coming out of the warehouse church's daily funerals. I will miss wandering past C-Town and all its associated customers. And of course, how could I not miss the gaggle of strange old men who hang outside the liquor store?
Ah well.
