Krishan: Yes -- I know I still owe you an email, expect one this afternoon.
Everyone else:
I wanted to quick update on Constantine before I dive back into Feminist Theory reading. First off, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Even though it didn't exactly follow the comics, they still managed to get the Hellblazer feeling across. Some of the acting was poor (especially Lucifer and Constantine), but some of the acting was enjoyable (especially Gabriel). I liked the movies take on Gabriel, and I especially liked her costuming. There definitely could have been more female roles and the female lead could have spent more time being active rather than being unconscious etc etc. There were a couple of loose ends that the movie never explained. And Constantine would never chew gum instead of smoking.
So it was enjoyable, but there's always room for improvement. I think they managed to get the flavor of the comic across and update Constantine's 80's image. The fact that the title character wasn't English or blond sorta grew on me by the end of it. They were going for a much darker more serious Constantine, and the dark hair went with that. Also, Keaneau is just terrible at accents, so forcing that would have made the movie worse.
Ok, now time for feminist theories of empire, imperialism, and post-colonialism. Fun fun.
(Also, check out Flickr, it fucking rocks -- kt and molly I want to see some pics up there soon)

We mostly read articles and bits and pieces of different books in this class. Its a lot of breadth, but I really feel I need to go back and read the entirety of these books.
