I am a tired mgg. And yet, I feel the need to write something about the card I drew this morning before work. I didn't have time then to write anything. Hopefully it will make sense.

Ace of Bats

What it looks like: Big purple hand (with sharp finger nails) extending from a cloud at top left. The hand has three fingers curled back, and one finger and thumb extended, pointing towards right. Middle finger has a ring shaped like a crown. From the extended finger hangs a large bat, looking directly out at the viewer. One of his/her wings is folded in over the body, the other extends out to the left. There are six stars scattered around the hand and bat. At the bottom left the black cat is sitting facing left, but looking back over his shoulder at the bat. He looks pretty angry. I think this is the first card yet where we've seen the whole cat, rather than just his head or part of his body. Very simple card, like all the other aces.

What could be going on: Aces are hard for me, probably the hardest cards in the deck (more difficult even than those knights I was complaining about the other day). There's not a lot going on on the card for me to draw on. They often hide from me in context with other cards; by themselves they're even more obscure.

Ok, enough whining. Aces begin the suits, so they could be seen as the gateway into the suit. At the same time, they're very simple, with not a lot of detail other than the suit itself. They are the suit: this card *is* bats, with all the baggage that goes with it. They could be seen as either the beginning of the road into the major themes of the suit (in this case, bad things, misery, trouble) or as the base note for the whole suit, containing all the flavors and themes of it within them. If its the first option, it could be considered a warning sign: keep this up, and look where you'll end. If its the second, there might be even more details to work out. It could mean a very complex situation, with lots of different themes going into it and confusing the issue (jealousy, anger, deceit, loss all rolled up together in a confusing mass). Or it could mean a very simple, but strongly flavored situation (bad!).

With this particular ace, I think it could be read either way, depending on where it falls in a reading and what particular question or query was made. Either way, the card seems to give some direction. The bat has one wing drawn in and one wing out. It could mean either comfort in a time of need or that you're hiding under cover from problems. The finger pointing out might be pushing you to press on, keep going, don't hide -- but its a weird purple hand coming out of a cloud, so really how far can you trust it.

The cat is interesting. He seems very unhappy with the bat, but not really riled. He is sitting up pretty stiff, but he isn't even facing the bat, he's just looking back over his shoulder. His tail curls next to him. Maybe this is mistrust? Frustration? Definitely not fear, not really anger.
