So Pat and I are trying to figure out how to move back. Its turning out to be a lot more difficult to get out of Boulder than to get into it. That's why I'm sitting awake right now at 1:30am, instead of in bed where I should be. I'm worried about what the next few months holds.

We need a place to live. Ideally, we want to live in New Brunswick, or one of the surrounding towns. Ideally, we'd like to live with others we know. Problem is, everyone seems to already have living arrangements for the next year. Need to figure out if there are people out there who need roommates, and if those people would be ok with a cat -- because the cat is an absolute must.

We need to find a place to live so we can figure out the actual logistics of the move. Can't rent a truck or sign a contract without having an address on the other end. Really need to get a contract for a truck soon. Have to figure out where we'll be living also so that we know how much money we have to put towards the truck, after security dep and first month's rent.

Have to either get our current apartment subletted or stay until the lease is up. Staying has advantages, going has advantages -- most importantly that we want to be home.

Once we get moved back, we won't have any jobs. I'm sure we can pick something up relatively quick, but it'll be for minimum wage and no benefits. What will we do after that? Who knows?

So I can't sleep because of the bleakness. We have to figure out somewhere to go to, how to get there, and how to pay for it all. And I'm not entirely certain what the best way to do that is. I keep starting to get this stuff sorted out, but I get overwhelmed fairly quickly. Its a lot all at once, and I don't have much experience in making it more managable.

Blarg.

I need to sleep. Have work in the morning, early.

Can we help? I can put it out in the Blue Star and FSA community that you're looking to move back and need someone to live with or some leads on places to stay. If you guys have any idea how much you can afford (I know, this is a hard one) I can start looking for you. I'm good at finding places to live.

Let me know how I can help. Also, consider maybe staying here for a few weeks while figuring out where you're going to live. You can use us as a destination or we can find you a storage place for your stuff to go live in. And you can bring your kitty here.

We want to help! :-)

Thanks very much for the offer. Pat and I need to sit down and assess the situation a bit more calmly and then make some phone calls to figure out what's what. But I'm sure we could take you up on *something* in the near future. Anything would be an amazing help right now -- and I really appreciate the thought.

*hugs*

If nothing else, you could certainly use our address as your destination address on contracts and then change it once you have the right one worked out.

Finding a grown up job is scary. But it can be done. :) Have you thought about substitute teaching while you're figuring stuff out? You would qualify here in NJ and it's better than retail (and in some districts it's full time with bennies). Also, I was a book merchandiser which is a lot of shlepping and driving, but you make your own hours and again it pays better than retail, although no benefits.

If you need someone to have a look at your resume, I'm pretty good with that.

The substitute teaching thing is an idea we've been tossing around. As far as I know its 60 college credits and a background check to get into the game -- but that's info from back when my mom used to do it. There might be the chance of getting a longterm fill in position, or even maybe getting a job where they'd send me to education school. I have a couple of friends who've done that.

But definitely a good idea.

Book merchandizing I don't know anything about, but I'll take a look see.

if you are interested in teaching at the highschool level, i know that new york state requires the teachers to have a masters. you could always hop the border if you are interested in teaching full time. highschool students have a lot of respect for intelligent people like you.

if you are looking for an in-between job you can sub. you are more than qualified for that!

How quickly do you need to make decisions? And how flexible is your moving window (i.e., how long do you have your apartment in Boulder)? I have a hare-brained idea, but need more info before letting it escape from my brain.

We'd need to make the plans fairly quickly, if not the final decisions. We have our apartment in Boulder till August -- but we'd like to sublet it for the summer and be home for June 1st.

Well ... June 1st would probably be too early for what I'm thinking. But I'm in the process of discussing moving in with someone, and even if we end up in NJ we have too much stuff together to comfortably live in my house. And I hate the thought of dealing with certain tasks (unskilled maintenance -- clearing out workshop in basement, fixing back fence, wrestling backyard vegetation, etc.) that would be necessary before I could sell the house. So, I was thinking that potentially waiving the first couple of months' rent in exchange for the tasks being done (materials supplied, of course), then working out length of rental based on a combo of your plans and any necessary sales timetable on this end might work. Might. Timing would necessarily depend in part on how my moving-in plans progressed, which would suck for you, I know. But ... feel free to think about it.

Can you ask Joanns for a transfer? It would take some of the urgency off of the job hunt. Also I second the vote for a big girl job. No one with a Masters degree should be working for minimum wage.

Kt and I have been talking about this (cuz we love and care about you both), and I have a few suggestions. At the very least, I hope they open up some doors for you.

1. I've noticed that living in a one bedroom apt. in New Brunswick can be just about as cheap as living with roomates. Esp. if you are willing to live a bit farther from campus...some of the ones I've seen are around 800-900 a month. Though, I can see how utilites will be more of an issue. Just remember sites like the Off-Campus housing site on rutgers.edu, and check rent.com for apts.

2. As for jobs, there's always the option of doing something part time until you can find something better (which I'm sure you know), but since I worked at Telefund for a few months (and left with a GREAT reputation), my opinion would be taken into consideration for hiring others. Also, they are willing to hire in the summer. The job isn't nearly as bad as people say, it's at least $10 an hour (and there are shitloads of bonuses to be had) and plenty of shifts to take. Also, the bosses are very nice, and though the job isn't ideal, it gets the bills paid. ALSO, they do interviews over the phone, and you can tell them your situation (about not being in the area for a while) and they'll work with that.

3. Know that we are here for you. You two are awesome, and if there is ANYTHING that Adam or I can do, please let me know. We will do everything in our power to help. *hugs*
